The manual provides step by step directions for sampling and testing of highway materials. These methods must be followed closely in order to ensure that the data produced is accurate and acceptable for quality control.

The manual provides information for training of materials technicians. It should also be used by engineers and supervisors as a reference on official testing methods for contract control.

Added information is provided at the end of many of the procedures to alert technician to special precautions required for good results. These paragraphs may also contain background information about the test of references for further study if desired.
