Highway Transport Patrol Basic Requirements for a Traffic Officer JobHIGHWAY TRAFFIC OFFICER The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has challenging opportunities in various locations throughout the province for highly motivated individuals who are interested in a career as a Highway Traffic Officer. Your primary goal will be to protect the infrastructure and ensure the safety of all highway users, as well as monitor compliance with National Safety Code requirements and Commercial Safety Alliance standards through the operation of permanent and portable weigh scales and mobile patrols within a designated geographical location. As a Highway Traffic Officer, you will enforce transportation legislation, policies and agreements for commercial vehicles using Saskatchewan roads. You will be responsible for checking commercial vehicle operators for licensing, certification and insurance and inspecting vehicles for safety, weights and dimensions, permits and registrations. Your duties will include laying charges, appearing in court, conducting investigations, and preparing reports. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills will be used to interact with team members, other enforcement and government agencies, as well as the commercial transportation industry. A Highway Traffic Officer is required to work shift work, travel with overnight stays away from your headquarters, and be in a position to operate an enforcement vehicle in a safe manner. You must pass a criminal record check and must be appointed a Special Constable pursuant to The Police Act, 1990. The successful candidate will also be required to complete a compatibility assessment that consist of problem-solving and temperament questionnaires, a physical and medical assessment prior to being hired to work as a Highway Traffic Officer/Special Constable. All successful candidates must undergo and pass the North American Standard Inspectors' Training course in order to be certified as a CVSA Inspector. Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a university or registered college with respect to a 2 year diploma in Law Enforcement with a focus on commercial vehicle enforcement, investigative and legal/court processes, procedures and documentation related to road transportation.", or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience to successfully meet the competencies.
