Throne Speech 2008
Did you know?

Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure employees have invented 270 innovations used for road maintenance equipment and other activities.

Transportation Partnership Agreements may be entered into to allow multiple trips with trucks that carry divisible loads and exceed the regulated weights and/or dimensions.

Transportation Savings

As a part of the Transportation Partnership Agreement, shippers agree to share the Transportation Savings achieved by hauling at weights or dimensions in excess of regulations, with the department.

Transportation Savings are defined as the difference between the cost of transporting the commodity in overweight or over dimension trucks and the cost of transporting the commodity in legal trucks.

Transportation Savings are calculated by comparing the ownership and operating costs of moving the freight in vehicles operating at legal vehicle weights and/or dimensions on specified routes and the ownership and operating costs of moving the freight in vehicles operating at vehicle weights and/or dimensions allowed under the Agreement.

Transportation Savings are route and operation specific and are unique to each agreement.

Transportation Savings are shared 50/50; with 50% of the Savings being retained by the partner and 50% being deposited into a special Transportation Partnership Fund which is used for road improvements and maintenance, for heavy haul related research and for administering the TPP program. A partner may request that up to 80% of their payments be committed to a specific road or section of highway.

Incremental Road Damage

As a part of the Transportation Partnership Agreement, shippers agree to pay for any incremental damage to the provincial infrastructure as a result of using heavier weights on the highways.
Incremental Damage is route and configuration specific and is unique to each agreement.
