Did you know? The 2008-09 budget ensures the safety and security of motorists by committing $5 million to help rural municipalities improve municipal roads affected by truck haul traffic in heavy oil production. Transport Compliance Branch Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)![]() Saskatchewan is a member of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), as are the other provinces and territories in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico. CVSA offers a uniform methodology for inspecting large vehicles and a criteria under which unsafe vehicles and drivers are removed from the road. Vehicles passing the CVSA inspection are given a decal which is recognized by all member jurisdictions for 3 months after the inspection. Saskatchewan Traffic Officers currently perform thousands of CVSA and other vehicle inspections every year while patrolling provincial highways and at weigh scale inspection stations. International Roadchecks Each year, along with the other Canadian provinces and territories, Saskatchewan participates in Roadcheck, a 72 hour concentrated safety inspection blitz held across Canada. Roadcheck has both enforcement and awareness benefits to the blitz. As well as detecting unsafe vehicles and drivers, it provides an opportunity to educate the motor carrier industry and the public as to the importance of safety in large vehicles. Results from Roadcheck are available from CVSA. |
