Snow plows in Saskatchewan are on the road before, during and after storms and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Trucking Partnership Agreements may be entered into to allow multiple trips, on defined routes, with trucks that carry empty containers or a single loaded container on vehicles that exceed those dimensions defined in Regulation on provincial highways.

Container Transfer Agreements are between the province and trucking company or shipper to move empty containers or a single loaded container on container chassis assembled into an overlength A-train configuration on the provincial highway system.

Container Transfer Partnership Agreement Principals:
Allow movement of containers from rail transfer facilities to holding yards or to shippers using container chassis assembled into an overlength A-train configuration not exceeding defined vehicle weights on provincial highway system.

  1. Defined routes designated within Agreement.
  2. Limited to 31 metres max. length on the 2-lane system, limited to 38 metres max length on the 4-lane system.
  3. Transportation Savings generated on the entire round trip are shared 50/50.
  4. Vehicle permits issued pursuant to agreements.

Additional Conditions of Container Transfer Partnership Agreements:

  • A-train configurations must meet or exceed relevant TAC standards.
  • Vehicle configurations may utilize 8 to 11 axles
  • Up to 4 empty containers may be hauled on two chassis. Alternatively, a single loaded container may be hauled on the lead chassis in conjunction with any applicable combination of empties or vans on the tail trailer.
  • Axle group weights may not exceed those allowed under the EEMV program. GVW may not exceed 62 500kg.
  • Speed is restricted to 90km/h maximum on the loaded and return trips for overlength configurations and speed recording devices are required.
  • Overlength vehicles are restricted by route and hours of operation in accordance with EEMV policy TPP0600.
  • Drivers are subject to special qualifications and performance criteria.
  • The shipper must pass a pre-entry audit.
  • Permission must be obtained by the partner from applicable municipal authorities for travel off the highway system.
  • Quarterly Reporting and TPF Payments.

This policy is in place to facilitate the supply of empty containers to shippers not able to accept them directly from the railways due to proximity or railway policy.
