From time to time, some highway projects require the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure (MHI) to buy more land. Examples of these improvements include constructing passing lanes, rural highway upgrades and building overpasses.

Buying land for highway projects requires MHI to communicate with landowners about things like:

  • Planning for future highway improvements;
    Land surveys;
  • Timing of future projects; and/or
  • Sale price for land and compensation for damage.
