The WCMGC Transportation Subcommittee is unique among the Area Transportation Planning Committees. The WCMGC was established to manage a wider number of concerns of interest to membership. The matter of transportation planning was delegated to their transportation sub-committee whereas, transportation planning is the primary purpose of an ATPC.

Mandate

The WCMGC-TS is a subcommittee that was established by the WCMGC to deal with transportation issues. The mandate of this sub-committee is to:

  • Work in partnership with road users and all players involved in the grain handling, processing, agricultural, oil and mining industries.
  • Determine the costs of maintaining the existing infrastructure and the building of new roads to support the changes occurring in the agricultural industry, i.e. grain, livestock and potatoes.
  • Bring forth proposals that will be equitable to all players concerning the cost-sharing of the above.
  • Continue to provide information to West Central Municipal Government Committee that will allow choices for each area in determining the placement of their financial resources to maintain and build necessary infrastructure in their own areas.
  • Identify the impacts of the oil and mining industry on the transportation system and work with industry to develop proactive solutions.

Goals:

  • To maximize the transportation system's contribution to the social and economic well-being of the area.
  • To communicate and consult openly and effectively.
  • Enhance safety for all stakeholders.


Objectives:

  1. To develop a comprehensive transportation plan.
  2. To continually assess short term opportunities.
  3. To continually ensure all stakeholders are considered in transportation needs.
  4. To develop a continuous dialogue with other ATPC's through the province.
